Volunteer Firefighter Reserves
The Corporation of the Town of Tecumseh invites applications from persons interested in serving as Volunteer (partial-paid) Firefighters at Tecumseh Fire Station #1 (985 Lesperance Road).
Job Summary
Reporting to the Director Community Safety & Fire Chief, the successful candidate(s) will be responsible for the protection of the community from disaster situations, as well as house and building fires and assisting in medical calls. Firefighters are responsible for promoting an environment of public safety within the Town, in addition to participating in fire prevention and education activities.
Qualifications and Requirements
A minimum Grade Twelve (12) Diploma or equivalent is required. Candidates must have the ability to engage in work activities that are physical in nature; be able to attend required training on Tuesday nights; and to complete a mandatory training program. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality at all times and the ability to exercise discretion and tact. Effective oral communication and strong interpersonal skills to deal with members of the public, and staff are also required. Candidates must possess good written communication skills, a valid Class “D” driver’s license from the Province of Ontario, including a “Z” endorsement in good standing within one year of employment, and reside within a 5.6 kilometre driving distance and/or seven (7) minutes of travel from Fire Station 1.
Preference will be given to those candidates that possess First Aid/CPR and Defibrillator certification training; who have previous related experience and/or training; and who reside within 3 kilometres driving distance of Fire Station 1.
Qualified applicants will be required to successfully complete a written aptitude exam, physical test, and a personnel interview. Selected candidates will be placed on a reserve list for future employment opportunities as a Volunteer Firefighter.

Salary
The Town offers an hourly rate of $34.41 (2025) for firefighting duties and $23.55 (2025) for other duties in accordance with the Agreement with the Tecumseh Firefighter’s Association. This position is subject to a probationary period of one (1) year of work.
